The new Cantalou factory located on the outskirts of Perpignan, is an ultra modern factory contructed in complete compliance with EAM (Environmental Assessment Method) for buildings. The investment necessary was 53 million Euros. The first stone was laid in January 2008 and eleven months later the first chocolate bar was manufactured. Energy saving Priority was given to improve and save energy: 3, 5 million Euros were invested in an 11,000 m² roof equipped with photovoltaic panels. These panels represent 45 % of the roof area, making it the largest industrial covered area in France: annual production is estimated at 650 000 KWh; the equivalent of 150 households’ annual consumption. The high performance, variable speed air compressor will ensure 20% energy savings compared to a standard compressor. A centralised management system enables us to follow electricity, compressed air, gas and water energies on a daily basis and to carry out immediate malfunction remedy. The installation of cooling towers enables us to obtain cooler temperatures with minimum energy consumption. The installation of solar panels means we can produce warm water without producing toxic waste: 155 m² produce nearly 100KW. All the latest energy developments were used in the conception of our building to obtain optimal energy performance.
Organic and fair trade The development of organic and fair trade networks is an obvious priority for us and our sustainable development policy. As we are aware of the environmental impact of our activity we are committed on a long-term basis to developing our organic and fair trade networks by working in partnership with local farmers and increasing our control of the cocoa networks and process. |
